La Brea Tar Pits

We packed up and left as late as we possibly could!  It was hard to get back in the car this afternoon, knowing that I’d be back to reality by tonight 😦 .  We just had one last stop on the way back home.

This was always one of the highlights of my trip to LA as a child.  I know what big dinosaur fans my children are and so I thought they’d get a kick out of it.

They got to see what it would be like to try to pull themselves out of tar…

… look at all the bones pulled out of the pits…

… and fossil tracks found nearby.

They played with the remote control, flying shark…

… and even watched as they were putting fossil remains of a camel found in the pits back together.

We enjoyed the outdoor atrium that housed turtles and all kinds of fish.

We stopped by Pizza Hut on the way home so that the kids could use their BOOK IT! coupons for a free personal pizza.  The BOOK IT! program is something that I’ve done with the kids for years now.  It’s a reading program that encourages daily reading (even on weekends).  Since Joseph is too young to read it’s his responsibility to make sure that his father or I read to him each day.
